How to Get to Hatteras Island

The best place to fly into is NORFOLK Virginia. You are just in Virginia Beach basically on the south side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel. Here is a chart of the rates

From NORFOLK to Hatteras Island
Two options:

1. rent a car – 135 miles or 3 ½  hour drive

2. Charter a shuttle plane to Manteo

Travel Considerations:

Hatteras Island is a barrier island that often breaches when a storm hits the island. It primarily effects Rodanthe just near the home used in the Nicholas Sparks movie "Nights in Rodanthe". More importantly, the local weather available at weather.com or the weather channel is not always accurate. We're 25 miles out at sea. If there is a storm coming it is best to check the NOAA website.
