Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a reservation?

Contact Outer Beaches and they will let you know about the home's availability.

Do you require a security deposit?

No.

What is your change/cancellation policy?

Be sure to review the Outer Beaches cancellation policy.

Do you allow pets?

No. I do not allow pets. Please do not bring a dog or cat in hopes that no one will notice. Many people on the island in the neighborhood keep me informed concerning my house. Bringing a pet will cause immediate eviction.

Do you provide any additional services?

Yes. In addition to the amenities that come wiht the home I provide concierge services through Shore Details. Shore Details can provide grocery service, so you don't have to spend your first day shopping, chef services for small and large parties, day planning that can be anything from a day on a commercial crab boat to a historic trip through Hatteras Village. To find out more about these unique services please contact Pam and Rene Stoffel at Shore Details.

Linens are also available.

Do you ever discount your rates?

Very Rarely. This is usually only done when the house has not been rented or there is a cancellation. A 10% discount is not given for multiple week bookings.

What will we be responsible for when we check out?

Remove food from refrigerator and wipe it clean. Paper products and spices may be left for the next guests. It's much more convenient than 10 salt and pepper shakers! Wash and put away all dishes, pots and pans. Remove all the trash from the inside of the house. Secure windows and doors.

What do we do if there is a maintenance issue?

Call Pam Stoffel at Shore Details. She will have someone come out to the house immediately.

What happens if there is a hurricane or weather related evacuation?

When a hurricane watch is issued by local authorities and/or the National Weather Service, you should begin preparations for possible evacuation. This is very important because the main road on and off the island frequently floods and you cannot pass even in a 4WD vehicle. Exit the Island to the north only! You cannot take the Ferry to Ocrocoke. Police and rangers will direct you to the quickest safe route when you reach the traffic light at Route 168. Prior to leaving the cottage, be sure to complete the "Hurricane Preparation Checklist" included on the home! See Outer Beaches evacuation information for more details.

Do I get a refund if there is a hurricane?

There are NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS FOR HURRICANE EVACUATIONS. The threat of a hurricane is always present during certain months of the year and we all assume this risk. According to the North Carolina Vacation Rental Act, in the event of a mandatory evacuation, "The tenant shall not be entitled to a refund if: i.e. prior to the tenant taking possession of the property, the tenant refused insurance offered by the landlord or real estate broker that would have compensated him or her for losses or damages resulting in loss of use of the property due to a mandatory evacuation order; or i.e. the tenant purchased insurance offered by the landlord or real estate broker." This means that no refunds will be given if you either buy or refuse to buy insurance. Please consider Travel Protection Insurance, which will reimburse you for lost vacation time, to avoid this risk.
